Another Alice Page

On June 10, Gingersnap Creations had a Mad Hatter Blog Hop. The DT each posted an amazing creation for us to enjoy while we visited their personal blogs to collect words to unscramble for a quote challenge to win a scrummy prize. I'm hoping I land those stamps because you know by now that I simply love anything Alice in Wonderland. We also were encouraged to hop along by posting something Alice on our own blogs and linking up to the GC post by June 25.

Needless to say, I'm still working on my Alice paper bag album. So every time one of these challenges comes along, I add another page. This time I finished page 1 by adding a pocket watch that I cut out from some G45 paper and stamping the rabbit and the smaller watch that says a very important date (stamps from Crafty Secrets) Note to self: no matter how much you want to do the cover first, remember that it makes it so much more difficult to stamp the inside. Then I cleverly added computer generated phrases in graduated sizes to emphasize I'm late. I didn't cut into the paper bag's shape which is why the bottom fold created a flap on the left side, allowing me an extra surface to place the image of Alice going down the hole (obtained from the Suzee Q Flickr site). The page on the right was my submission for the storybook challenge last month on GC's Yahoo! Group.

SUMMER FUN WITH G-45, Pages In Time, and Simply Scrapping Crafts

OOH LA LA!  Some photos of my dad on holiday in France.  Another lifetime, so long ago.  Wish I had know him then.  It was a Father's Day full of mixed emotions as I poured over old photos, looking for something to scrap for this sketch and challenge. I spent the weekend working on another one of my pile it on activities, joining in SSC's Fun In the Sun crop while working on the PIT Sketch of the Week.  All I knew was that I wanted to use the Graphic45 On the Boardwalk paper collection for my combo challenge.  I pulled out some photos of my mom from Lake Tishigan--that will be another layout for another day.  I thought about photos of both my mom and dad on holiday, across the sea from each other.  I finally decided on these photos of my dad.

It's hard to tell from the photo, but I built up the 2 squares, making them into twinchies.  Also built up the label and the center circle in the sun.  I put on the tag one of my vintage BINGO markers.  It was red so I used my orange Zig writer to color over the red, and somehow miraculously it turned into the exact color of the G45 paper.  To comply with the SSC recipe, I made sugar with Scattered Straw Distress Stickles applied to the sand in the graphic (right top) and the sun sticker, and found some glittery alphas.  For the yellow lemon, I added a strip and sun from the BasicGrey June Bug sticker collection.

Simply Scrapping Crafts FUN IN THE SUN SUMMER KICK-OFF WITH A CROP PARTY
Lemonade Stand Recipe Challenge

You must use, at a minimum, the following elements in your card or layout:

· the color yellow (represents the lemons)

· 4 squares of any size (represents the ice cubes)

· 3 circles of any size (represents the lemon slices)

· glitter or glitter glue (represents the sugar)

· hand written journaling or title (represents the sign for the lemonade stand)

Make a lemonade inspired card or layout that uses the recipe ingredients as a minimum - you can use whatever other elements you choose to build your inspiration piece! When you're done, we should all feel sweeter, refreshed and ready for summer!

Directly below, is an updated post of my previous layout.

SSC Guest Designer of the Week for Old Settlers Rides layout

Bringing this post back up to the top because Pryn chose this layout for Weekly Layout Guest Designer at Simply Scrapping Crafts (SSC).  I discovered this while participating in the SSC Summer Fun Crop this past weekend.  (My new challenge layout soon will be completed and posted.  And I played their BINGO game and won!!  Woo Hoo!)

I am so flattered to have been chosen GDT.  These are Pryn's kind words to me:
I chose your layout based on creativity and design. I found your layout to be well balanced and pleasing to the eye. The colors you used are inviting and refreshing. What also caught my eye was the spray of stars and how you chose to tie it all together with adding your journaling onto the tickets. This really went with the theme of your photos. Your layout had all key components to a successful layout....   THANKS SO MUCH, PRYN! AND SSC!

This information is from the original post on June 7, 2010:
Pages In Time Design Team member Barbara challenged us this June to Color Your World.  When I think of summer colors, I think of yellow, red, white and blue.  These are the colors of so many patriotic holidays, parades and summer festivals.  I think of that hot yellow sun beating down on me as I patiently waited for my young children to finish their rides at our Old Settlers Celebration.

I used the June Week 1 Scrappy Saturday sketch from Simply Scrapping Crafts.  Except for the Prima Star spray, a tiny blue foil star, and part of a blingy flower used for the bird's tail, all of the products on this layout are Jenni Bowlin.

My Creation with the New Pages In Time Logo

Here is what I created with our new Pages In Time logo.  As I mentioned in the last post when I revealed the logo, our new Design Team gets a new logo, and Karen challenged each team member to create something with it.

I am making an album with each page representing one of the groups that I belong to.  For the album, I'm using the Tim Holtz idea-ology bracket grungebook.  I'm trying to design each page to fit the style of the group.  Pages In Time represents scrapping layouts using beautiful patterned paper and luscious flowers from Karen's Pages In Time on-line store.  I specifically used the new Tim Holtz paper she sent me along with the Petaloo flower, the glittery swirl, and the rose.  Other supplies:  Ranger Distress Ink,  Adirondak metallic gold paint Dabber to edge the bracket, rhinestones from everywhere including Martha Stewart's on the ribbon; and misc. stuff from my stash.

Here are the other two pages so far for my Everything Wendy Vecchi Yahoo! Group (actually made in her workshop--her design, my execution), and for my Gingersnap Creations blog challenges and Yahoo! group.

TARDY TO THE PARTY

I spent the evening making this belated birthday card.  It's for the Everything Wendy Vecchi Yahoo! Group Birthday Card Club.  So of course, I used some of  Wendy's Studio 490 stamps: the flowers and the sentiment.  I put the Tim Holtz bird cage die to work, covering the cage with Perfect Pearls and the bird with Broken China distress ink.  Patterned papers are from the Pretty Please Spring papers pack by My Mind's Eye. I even dug out my Spellbinders Nestabilities Classic and Scalloped ovals.  I finished with some bling and ribbon.
My inspiration was this sketch for the June Card Challenge Week 1 over at Simply Scrapping and Crafts made by SSC Design Team member Amy.

Now, to get this in the mail tomorrow.....  The birthday girl has been beyond patient waiting for this to arrive.

LIAR, LIAR, PANTS ON FIRE!

First off I'd like to thank Lynn from Trash to Treasure Art for this award.
Here are the deets...
1 Express gratitude to the blogger who bestowed the award unto you. Thanks Lynn and           .
2 Display the picture on your blog proudly.

3.Be nice and provide a link to the person who gave it to you. (Done) Be sure to link up to Trash to Treasure Art to see Lynn's fabby work.  Congrats, Lynn,  on being published in the amazing Stampington publication, Somerset Gallery Summer 2010.
4 Tell up to six outrageous lies about yourself, and at least one outrageous truth, or switch it around and tell six outrageous truths and one outrageous lie.
5 Nominate seven creative writers who might be into doing this. Just so you know, I hate being limited to 7.
6 Post links to the seven blogs you nominate and let the owners of those blogs know: (click on their names to get to their blogs.)

I'm happy to praise your work and give a link to your sites.  No pressure to participate in this award.
Barbara  my Pages In Time design team leader, where we really have scrap happening
Deb who taught me the color pink is a great scrap color and shares with me a love of all things Alice
Linda  a true friend in art, always there to support my artistic efforts
Judy who sees me everywhere there's art: shopping and workshops
Lisa  I recently came to know her at PIT --she has a great sense of humor
Marie we hang out together at more than one site
Pryn who's on the Simply Scrapping and Crafts Design Team

So here are my Lies or Truths....

1.  I have the most amazing singing voice and easily could be the next American Idol if I'd bother to try out. But with Simon gone now, what would be the point?
2.  I have crowns plastered all over my blog because I have a title of nobility, have perfected the queen's wave, and truly want world peace.
3. I only wear heels--the higher the better--and had shelving put in one designated room to hold them all.
4.Paris Hilton sent me one of her diamond bracelets because she knew how much I admired the design. I'm actually wearing it right now while keyboarding.  I love how it sparkles on my wrist whenever I move the mouse around.
5.I just got back from Johnny Depp's private island where I played with the fam and discussed my feature role in his upcoming movie.  Shhhh....my lips are sealed--you'll just have to wait for the movie trailer to come out.
6. George Clooney, Bill Gates, and Donald Trump each want me to head up one of their projects.  I have some important decisions to make in the next few weeks and will be busy with conference calls. In case you can't get through to me, just leave a text.
7. The producers asked me to leave the show So You Think You Can Dance because I dominated the other contestants.  That's why you never saw me on the telly--so unfortunate since I had choreographed a dynamite number for the music,  Dancing Queen.  Look out Meryl Streep!

Cousin Carl

This is my take on today's sketch challenge at Pages In Time. Here is the sketch I used:

The photo is of my cousin Carl.  I think it was taken in the late 1930's.  I don't know anything else about this photo other than it was in a box of old family photos handed down to me.  The photo's been calling to me to be scrapped, and today was the day!

My materials are some papers and embellishments from Adornit along with odds and ends from my stash.

Today also is the reveal day for the June Kit of the Month available at Pages In Time.  I see some yummy Prima papers plus lots of other great product.  I can't wait to start working with this kit.

Clothesline Challenge

Don't ask me why, but it's International Clothesline Week June 5-12.  There are a couple of great cards as inspiration for this occasion at the Gingersnap Creations challenge blog which is where I read about this event.

For my Design Team June challenge at Pages In Time, I'm suggesting members scraplift one of the many wonderful contributions to the PIT gallery.  I chose a layout by one of the members which featured a clothesline.  Yea, the lightbulb really went on for this one.  One, I bought a cute clothesline embellishment years ago and needed to get it on a layout.  Two, I got to use up a lot of very old supplies piling up around here like the patterned paper.

About this old photo of my mom with my three children:  She would crochet and knit sweaters and house slippers for my kids.  She even crocheted the most amazing christening set which all three of them wore when baptized.
About the embellishments:  I liked using this ready-made clothesline with the crocheted clothes as well as adding the crocheted flowers to this layout.  The items reminded me of the things my mom would make.

At Pages In Time,   Artist of the Month for June is Janis Medina-Maghinay.
I've admired her work long before we met up at Pages In Time.
I love her use of bright, bold colors and her great artistic style.
Congrats Janis!
