Summer of Color Week Two: She Believed

This week's Summer of Color 2014 color combo is teal, coral and a pop, smudge or splash of bright white.

Once again, I'm paper piecing  a paper doll tag.
This tag also is for our Tag Tuesday prompt--tag on a tag.  Please check all the tags from the players HERE

Materials:

Core'dinations card stock cut into tag; embossed with honeycomb folder and sanded
Gecko Galz Just Words sentiment  (The mini digital stamp is free right now.  Check out the details HERE)
Martha Stewart butterfly punch
Julie Nutting Prima doll stamp
Stampin' Up patterned paper and white pearls
Eyelet Outlet coral brad
ribbon from stash
teal pearls and flower from stash

I'd like to submit this to My Cheri Crafts (a new site for me that I found on Challenge for Days) for Challenge # 135 Three in a Row.  I almost covered the card.  I can go down the left side with tag shape, patterned paper, and paper piecing. Or down the right side with emboss paper, pearls and flowers.
Woo Hoo!  I received an Ooh La La Award !!!!!

Happy Father's Day

I love the Julie Nutting doll stamps from Prima.  Over the past several months I have purchased several but am just starting to use them.

To jump start getting them inked up, I'm taking some workshops at my local scrapbook store.  This is one of the cards we made.  All the creativity goes to the workshop facilitator.  I just inked, cut, layered, and glued.

However, this card is perfect for my son, and so he received it for Father's Day.

Summer of Color Week One: Alice Paper Doll

For my first Summer of Color project I decided to do paper piecing since paper crafting is my main medium.  Of course we can do a series of something similar or go with something totally different for each of the six weeks' of prompts.  Right now, in week one, I'm thinking of making six paper dolls.

Week One's color prompt is

Aqua blue, yellow and a pop, splash or smudge of hot pink

I've also signed up for the Mad Tea Party in July so I'm doing double duty here, creating Alice in her tea party frock.

Materials: Julie Nutting Doll Stamp by Prima
Tea Party digital papers by Samatha Walker which I won from Gecko Galz.
Martha Stewart keys
Crafty Secrets sentiment stamp
Copic markers (on hair) Y11, Y15
Pink ribbon from Lickety Split
pink gems from stash

This Summer I'm Sitting On Top Of The World

Gecko Galz owner Leanne has her own challenge going on at her Fripperies and Butterflies blog for the month of June:  Summer Cheesecake Challenge.  She even is providing you with a free collage sheet to use. See all the details HERE.

JUNE CHALLENGE

Summer is always a time to feel carefree and happy, especially after an icy, snowy winter and a cold, wet spring.  We get to shed those woolies and umbrellas.  I chose this image from the collage sheet to embrace my theme.
"I'm Sitting on Top of the World"---"just rollin' along"....."just singin' a song"

This also is my Tag Tuesday 1950's themed tag.  To see all the 1950's inspired tags, please go HERE.

Les Paul and Mary Ford recorded this song in 1952.  As a little girl, I loved watching their television show--of course it was in black and white.  I thought the "world" reinforced "just rollin' along"--similar to Patti Page sitting there waiting to join in (although I'm sure she was on a "stool").

The space themed embellishments?????  Influenced by the 1950's sci-fi martian movies, of course!

This is a digital hybrid card.
Gecko Galz:  Table linens paper, Kitchen Sink Banners, Summer Cheesecake image

After layering all the png files, I added the text before printing.  I used a black Sakura glaze pen on the dots and attached a bit of velvet cloth ribbon.

And of course my printer is telling me I'm out of yellow and black inks--perhaps why the tag isn't as bright as I would like.

Snow White

This card is in my design team gallery at the Gecko Galz website for the June 2014 releases.
Please visit to see inspiration from all the design team Galz.

Materials:

Gecko Galz:
Ever After individual collage sheet
Carnival Digital paper pack

Papers:
2 of  8.5 x 11 " Stampin' Up Night of Navy
1 of 12 x 12" Colorbok Textured Cardstock Earthtone Warm: orange

Trims:
2 widths of 2 colors of Orange ribbon
1 red ribbon
Starfoam Glitter Stickers:  Glitter Red
orange Doodlebug Design doodle twine
Metal birdcage with heart from Michaels A Place in Time metal embellishments

Misc:
Sizzix Tim Holtz Alterations Cracked Texture Fade (embossing folder)
Spellbinders Nestabilities Labels 17 dies
red line tape
dimensional adhesive (pop dots)
adhesive
black marker for outlining images

Directions:

Ever After collage sheet:  crop, print and fussy cut Snow White image, outline with black marker
Carnival paper:  select Forbidden Fruits from digital paper pack, resize to 6-5/8" high by 5-3/8" wide
Night of Navy card stock:  Using score board, crease down middle of 11" length and fold in half.  Your card now is 5-1/2" wide.  Cut off excess so card measures 6-3/4" high.  The excess is called a "scrapling".  Put aside to use for another card. Adhere patterned paper to card.

Using another piece of navy and your orange card stock, use label dies to make two mats.
Run orange mat through an embossing folder for texture and added interest.  I chose the cracked folder to mimic the Wicked Queen looking in the mirror asking, Who's the fairest of them all? Adhere Snow White image to label mats.  Use foam dots from torso up.  Use glue for skirt.

Adhere orange trims with red line tape so that they fall within the bottom one third of your label mats and so that they are just below the cluster of forbidden fruit.  Place red glitter sticker strips on top of orange ribbon. Make bows from red ribbon and twine and attach metal charm.  (I chose a charm to represent the woodsman's mission to bring back Snow White's heart.)

Adhere label mats to card on top of trim, positioning in right 2/3 of paper to show off clusters of fruit on patterned paper and high enough so trim on skirt flows into ribbon trim on left side.  To have label mats lie flat, use foam dots on top one third and under ribbon trim.  Adhere bow to ribbon trim placing it at base of cluster of forbidden fruit.

Long Ago Tag

The Gecko Galz customer challenge for June is Ladies of Long Ago.  Here is my design team inspiration tag

If you would like to enter the customer challenge, be sure to link up your entry at our Gecko Galz BLOG or email a picture of your project by June 29th to geckogalz2014@gmail.com
And On July 1st we will announce our winner at Gecko Galz. Winner gets $25.00 in Gecko Galz product and a digital kit prize pack from our sponsor this month, Opticillusions.

This tag also serves as my "roses" tag for Tag Tuesday. I haven't had time to play much over there.  Be sure to visit to see how everyone interpreted the theme.

This tag makes me very happy because I've used a lot of things from my stash that have been collecting for years.  The beautiful handmade flower is from a design site gift exchange.  I'm pretty sure Bitsy made it.  The row of flower trim along the bottom is K and Co.   A bit of leftover crochet trim and gems are out of the box permanently!  The cluster of paper roses in the top left corner are from the Flying Unicorn when I was on the design team.  I used lots of old papers.

The image is from Gecko Galz June 2014 release: Her Beautiful Colors collage sheet.  The butterfly from my Martha Stewart punch to which I added some gems.  It seems I can't live without my Stampabilities Nestabilities Label die cuts.  New, first time used, is my much anticipated Heartfelt Creations Decorative Lattice Swirl die template.  (I picked that up at their booth at a Scrapbook Convention.)  The lattice (4 pieces) and butterfly are cut from lilac paper but it looks almost white in the photo. Ribbon is from a recent craft challenge win. I used all these products to mimic the dress and adornments of this lovely lady who epitomizes the traditional vieiw of feminine and fancy.

Gecko Galz June Cross Promotion

This month's Gecko Galz cross promotion is with Optical Illusions Etsy shop.  Here is the link https://www.etsy.com/shop/opticillusions

This is a totally digital item which I'm calling Miss Louise Playbill.  I used Photoshop Elements to create this.

I used 3 images from the Gecko Galz June 2014 release Miss Louise digital collage sheet.
I used the background paper, banner, clocks, and word strip from Optic Illusions' The Measure of Time digital scrapbook kit

Directions:
Crop 3 images of Miss Louise,  remove backgrounds, and save as ping files

From The Measure of Time pack, start with Pennies from Heaven banner and clock charm. Remove backgrounds and save as ping files.  Place clock charm on top of banner and size to fit. Layer two images of Miss Louise to line up with clock faces.  Type onto drum the words "featuring Miss Louise".  Position third image of Miss Louise and "bring to back" one layer.

From The Measure of Time pack, find word label "At this Moment".  Convert to png file.   I added a paper bag background.  Position word label onto banner and adjust size and position.

From The Measure of Time pack, select paper with clocks.  Position banner on top and crop clock paper.  Add a frame around the clock paper.  Add a frame and 3-D shadowing around banner for dimension.

Add a sepia color wash over the entire piece.

Please check Gecko Galz website HERE for the latest news and to see more creations, from the rest of the design team, using Gecko Galz and Opticillusions.
