I printed out the ledger paper, distressed it, took a photo of it to use as a png file, and placed it in the digital composition.

I printed out and cut all the jewel papers and created a pattern on the black card.
Then I printed out and added the checkmate image. After I took a photo of the finished card, I digitally added the brads and flower.
