QKD Royal Blog Hop and September Designs

You guessed it! It's the first Wednesday of the month and time to reveal the September stamp sets at Queen Kat Designs. The team has made some fantastic projects for you! This month I got to create with two stamp sets. Today I'm revealing Give Thanks. Next Wednesday, you'll see a card I made with Apple Days. I absolutely love both stamp sets!!! ADMIT ONE TO THE GAME OF LIFE! For this altered art project, I started with a black chipboard house that I made and then covered with patterned paper and embellished with an antique wood checker, old ticket, mini Framedangoe, silk leaf, black rhinestones, metal word life, and two of the stamps in the set. I stamped the bird in the most perfect spot. I repeated the leaf stamp to make a vine across the top of my house. So if you're not ready to start making Thanksgiving projects, you can use this Give Thanks set for lots of other projects. Great Day in the 'boro

It's an absolutely gorgeous day here. Looking at my little pond in the backyard, I chose the QKD Kiss Me Frog stamp for my Saturday post on the official QKD blog. What a Hero!

I made this card for my dh who's always willing to lend a helping hand--a true hero to many of us in the 'boro. He removed a four foot snake from a pontoon boat so that we gals could enjoy our girls' night out boat ride. He rescued our ds when his car broke down--and got it repaired for him. After our last damaging wind storm, he got out the chain saw and removed huge branches that had fallen in our neighbor's yard. He remade and painted a cabinet for my craft room so that I have a place just the right height to stamp. He helped his nephew rebuild his front steps. And now he's repairing the dock for his sister. I could go on and on..... But instead, here's what I made in his honor. It all started when I was surfing the Midnight Madness site and saw that McMahon Five designs.com was a sponsor and offering some free digital downloads. I couldn't believe how perfect the quote was! I printed it out on My Mind's Eye patterned paper and used a paper frame from my stash. I chose What's New Club patterned paper from A2Z Essentials for the card background. Then I used the My Hero stamp from Queen Kat Designs, pleated some black ribbon and used foam squares to make a medal. To complete the card, I used some Tim Holtz products: Idea-ology Findings sprocket gears and game spinners (to point to my hero) and Harlequin Grungeboard stars (with some copper Perfect Pearls) and; Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink, and for the big finish, my favorite TH stamp from Stampers Anonymous. And just to show you what a great guy my dh is, look at this fantastic find that he picked up for me today!

This photo inspired the QKD Design Team to create today's projects. When I saw the photo, I really wanted to be sitting in one of those chairs, looking out at the water. I used the theme literally, finding similar colors in my paper for the same effect. To complete my calming scene, I used the palm trees stamp from the QKD Paradise Found stamp set. This amazing set is on sale in the QKD store!

Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge Week #15 (MMSC15)

This is my MMSC15 entry for the Midnight Madness week 15 sketch challenge. I've had the badge on my blog for a long time. I love the cards posted on this site and drool over the great prizes. Tonight, I FINALLY made a card for the weekly challenge! I loved the way the sketch worked up. I used my leftover Graphic 45 papers from the Fashionista and Communique collections.

For this color challenge, I chose an acrylic card and white ink. I used the QKD Funky Swirl stamp and a sentiment from the QKD Take a Journey greetings set that are two of the new August releases. The sentiment (embossed) label (Nestabilities) and the swirl with pink Stickles accents are on top of the acrylic card. On the inside of the acrylic card are the pink label and teal paper cut with a Fiskars border punch. (The teal paper is the same as I used for my designer box in the post below. It was difficult to capture the full color through the acrylic.) Please continue the hop to Alex, our newest team designer. You won't be disappointed. Morphed

Here's a layout that has been morphing over the past two weeks. It started as a Whisper Challenge on the Scrapbooking and Crafting Friends website where I'm a DT'er. I had never done a challenge like this one, and it turned out to be quite an interesting experience. The first person created a layout, took a photo of it, and emailed the photo to the next person on the list. That person tried to figure out the sketch map and create a similar layout, photo it, and email it to the next person on the list. Just like the game of Whispers or Telephone, you never know how it's going to end up on the other end. I was number 5 on the list. Mine looked nothing like the first one (which we got to see after the game was completed). Then I used the layout for a summer themed blog hop. Today, I altered it (as I'm never satisfied with the finished product) to include titles, flowers and bling. So today you'll see it on the QKD official blog for my DT Stampin' Saturday post because I used a QKD sentiment stamp as part of the title. And I'll probably post it on a couple other sites I'm involved with. I like to get the most out of the time I put into a project. To use one of my ds' expressions: That's how I roll. (If you click on the photo to enlarge it, you'll see that just when I snapped the pic, the wind blew a little object into the letter G. lol---too hot to go back out and redo the photo shoot!)

What I did and what I used: QKD stumpy stamp on double labels made with Nestabilities dies. Owl from set used to make random stamped background paper; paper then crumpled and distressed. Patterned papers from Graphic 45 and 7 Gypsies; sentiment from 7 Gypsies put inside bottle cap altered with Adirondack copper mixative alcohol ink; flowers from Prima and Hero Arts, Kaiser copper pearls; StazOn timber brown ink; Tim Holtz for Ranger distress inks in vintage photo, antique linen, and walnut stain.
