Mark Your Calendars for the PIT DT BLOG HOP

The Pages In Time Design Team will be having a blog hop August 28-29, 2010. We have created some beautiful projects! There will be RAKs and I have heard talk of prizes! You won't want to miss this! I've been busy with eating my way through our town's Old Settlers Days celebration which officially marks the end of summer and start of school.  Saw a good band each night.  The homemade floats in the Kiddie Parade were awesome.  One pronto pup (corn dog), lemon shake up, rib eye sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, and 2 (count 'em-2) funnel cakes later, I'm ready to settle into the fall routine (although one too many funnel cakes may prevent me from settling into my fall clothes).  You saw this layout posted earlier this summer of my kids when they were little enjoying the Old Settlers rides.

I've also changed up my blog look and Playlist until the Halloween version shows up mid-September.  I've organized the challenges I want to enter.  And for added inspiration here's this week's Pages In Time sketch.  Don't forget if you create layouts from the sketches and post them in the Pages In Time Thursday Sketch Group, you may win a prize from Karen, our PIT store owner.

Fair Ribbons

 I've been busy today making fair ribbons. The idea is in the September 2010 Creating Keepsakes magazine. There also is an internet link to the five examples by Laura Vegas: It's in the Tips and Tricks article by Megan Heoppner.  Above is my vintage version using Jenni Bowlin products and some vintage seam binding.  Below is my first attemp at a fair ribbon using red, blue and yellow which is my color combo for this week in the Pages In Time Queen of Colors Group that I moderate.  I also put both of my samples in my Pages In Time Tags and Things Group.  I'm still learning how to take photos with my camera phone since my camera isn't working at the moment. 

My Chair

It's my turn as a Pages In Time design team member to create a layout for the PIT Thursday Sketch.

I used the 3rd and 4th papers in from the left, as well as the ribbon, found in the Pages In Time August Kit of the Month. The Sophie Collection from My Mind's Eye is absolutely beautiful and wonderful to work with. The paper actually is a dark plum with brown tones. Camera Note: My trusty Canon digital camera finally bit the dust. So this photo was taken with my camera phone. Taking the photo out in the sunlight makes the paper look much brighter. As you can tell from the kit photo, the paper is darker. 

I thought the PIT Thursday Sketch was perfect for my three wallet photos of my darlings in the velvet chair. As you can tell my the sketch, there is a lot of white space. I seized the opportunity to use this luscious patterned paper, concentrating just on the circle portion of the layout.

I used another Sophie paper to cut the circle which I edged in lace from a previous PIT kit. Also from previous PIT kits are the flowers and silver pearls. From my stash I added Webster's Pages alphas, a butterfly I cut from pp; and my vintage BINGO marker.

I used ATC backs for the photo mats, ran them through the Cuttlebug to dry emboss them, then distressed them with Tim Holtz for Ranger Distress Ink in Weathered Wood with a touch of Dusty Concord. FYI:  weathered wood was a perfect match for the beautiful tree/bird pattern at the top of the Sophie paper.

The photos are from a professional photographer, Ken Meade (free advertising for you, Ken!). Each child had a photo taken in the chair, but as you can see they progressively got older before I got around to scheduling the next photo shoot!

Confused?

Don't be.  Having a little trouble with my blog today so I deleted my latest post.  Now you see it, now you don't.  Update:  I thought it was the last post that was the problem, but I'm still having trouble.  Maybe it's cosmic chaos in cyberspace and not me.

Background Music While I Clean the Scrap Room

I'm busy overhauling my scrap room and having art withdrawals.

Those who are visitors to my blog know that I'm always changing the blog background and my Playlist.  The song playing almost always matches the art I'm posting.

Crazy by Gnarls Barkley is at the top of my list and usually greets you on my blog except I changed to a fifties theme for August to go with this fun blog background from designer Penny Duncan.  I love all types of music.  To prove it, my other top fave song is Sarah Brightman's Pie Jesu.

I encourage you to hit the pause button on the playlist and take a moment to enjoy the You Tube video I have up of one of my favorite Lily Allen songs, Chinese.  I love listening to their version of the song Lily dedicated to her mom.

I could keep you here all day talking about my favorite songs but then my room wouldn't get clean, and I couldn't get back to making art!

Here's the Pages In Time Thursday Sketch for August 5th to inspire you:

Big News:  Now in addition to moderating 2 other groups that I've had since January, I'm the Design Team member assigned to moderate the Queen of Colors group at Pages In Time.  I'm posting new color combinations each week to inspire your creativity.  This week we're talking about our favorite coffee and posting a color combo to match.  I love hazelnut/vanilla coffee, no cream or sugar.  So that would be various shades of brown, monochromatic looking.  Since I'm cleaning instead of scrapping, I pulled up this old layout from February 2009 to show my love of coffee:

I used coffee filters for the photo mat and to make the flower.  But I digress..back to cleaning the scrap room. And for those who know me, I'll be cleaning-- not rockin'-- around the clock to get it all done!

Enamored with Armor?

Everyone is having too much fun decorating the dressmaker's mannequin for this week's Tag Tuesday Weekly Challenge.  I wanted to play!  So I had to join in with my first contribution for Tag Tuesday.  (Tag badge with a link is on my sidebar). 

I positioned the pattern on this gorgeous Prima paper (Iron Orchid Designs: Angelique Collection: Heavenlies) so that I'd get the design I wanted.  After I cut it out and outlined it with black marker, I added some lace trim and metal flowers.  I used a broken necklace to create my own version of the hottest new jewelry trend, gold plated body armor, lining the chain up inside the paper's pattern.  I'll probably be trendy with the big cuff bracelets and ginormous rings, but not the body armor chains.  My little mannequin just will have to be fashionable for the both of us.

I had some fun with this one.  I found these great photos of my godmother and her sisters and my mom taken after WWll.

Note:  You all know how important music is to me and how it usually coincides with my layouts.  Now I'd like to share  one of my favorite songs that we found performed on YouTube.  I hope you'll take a minute to watch it.  The choir, as another art form, inspires my creativity. And these wonderful girls singing have nothing to do with today's layout theme...other than  Lily wrote this song for her mother--and this is a photo of my mom having fun and I miss my mom!  So hit the pause button on Playlist and hit the play arrow on YouTube.

Pages In Time inspiration sketch for the July PIT kit:

The July PIT kit provided the cardboard cutout shape, the 7 Gypsies Avignon Collection patterned paper: Fleur De Lys  (covering the shape),  Say It with Pearls embellie, lace and flowers.  I placed it on Kaisercraft Devonshire Collection pp from the June PIT kit.  I just liked how the two papers looked together.  And the June Devonshire Guinevere has a beautiful distressed pattern so I didn't have to add anything to it.

One Thing Leads to Another

If you make a homemade flower, then you have to do something with it, so you make an embellishment.  If you make an embellishment, then you have to use it on something, so you make a layout.  And so it goes.....  I discovered a free on-line tutorial to make flowers out of Jenni Bowlin crepe paper.  This was quite fortuitous because I already had in my stash some of this great stuff.  I had used it to make a bow for my Old Settlers' Rides layout.  I don't know the first thing about making my own flowers (other than the famous Wendy grungepaper roses, etc.), so I decided to check out the tutorial.  The Fabulous Flowers Class was a designated site from Scrapbook Challenges and taught by Betsy Sammarco.  I learned how to make several different flowers with JB crepe paper.

To cap off the week, we were challenged to make and post a project using the flower(s).  Back in the spring, I bought some JB paper and chipboard buttons with the intention of making a patriotic layout for this photo.  So the challenge was on.....  This also is my humble attempt at using a lot of white space on a layout as well as putting something interesting in a corner.

The photo is of a cafe owned by relatives during WWII.  There is a sign on the wall, Serving U.S. Armed Forces.  Hence, the red, white and blue patriotic theme.

I woke up this morning to this email award from my blog buddy Sabrina.  Isn't this the sweetest image? This is the perfect time to thank all of you for choosing to follow my artistic endeavors here at LOTSA SCRAP.   I see that I now have 85 followers!!!!  Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine so many cyberfriends when I started my blog 1-1/2 years ago!  I love creating in the solitude of my scrap room.  But I also enjoy the wonderful, supportive comments you leave me when I post the finished product.  And I love visiting all of you and being inspired by your wonderful works of art.  I'm so happy this award doesn't come with any rules. I would like each and every one of my followers to take this award and post it on your blogs.  Yes, this means YOU! Because without you my artistic journey into cyberspace would be very lonely indeed!
